Srinagar, Apr 07 (KNO): Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Srinagar City, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat on Tuesday said that the department has intensified enforcement against the use of pressure horns, high-beam lights, hidden number plates and other violations, following a surge in public complaints across the city. Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), SSP Bhat said several complaints have been received from residents, particularly along the national highway and city bypass, where heavy vehicles and truckers frequently use high-intensity pressure horns. “We received many complaints from people regarding pressure horns, especially on highways where truckers use high-intensity horns, causing inconvenience to the public,” he said. The SSP said the issue is more serious as key hospitals and institutions are located along these routes. “There are hospitals like JVC Bemina and other institutions, besides residential areas and people, including patients, are being affected,” he said, adding that the problem becomes more acute during evening hours when entry of heavy vehicles into the city is allowed. Bhat said special enforcement drives are being conducted during evening hours, and action has already been taken against several violators. “Our teams are active in the evenings, and we have taken action against many vehicles. We will further intensify these drives,” he said. Highlighting another major concern, the officer said misuse of high-beam headlights poses risks to oncoming drivers. “High beam directly impacts the driver coming from the opposite side. This is mostly seen on interior roads, and we have taken action in such cases as well,” he added. On attempts to evade penalties, he said some motorists conceal or tamper with number plates to avoid challans. “We are identifying such violators, and proceedings are underway. Vehicles found with hidden number plates will be seized,” he warned. SSP Bhat added that the traffic police have also intensified night drives against the use of fog lamps, pressure horns and rash driving, aimed at ensuring safer roads and minimising public inconvenience across Srinagar—(KNO)
